Two Bananaquits were reported in Miami-Dade today. The first was found by Keeli Marvel on Boca Chita Key in Biscayne National Park. The second was found by Joseph Montes de Oca in Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. Details can be found on the South Florida Rare Bird Update.

Boca Chita can only be reached by boat, I am sure Brian mentioned this in the South Florida Rare Bird updatd.
Considering how many there are, is Bananaquit really a rare bird right now!
I think people can access Boca Chita from Biscayne National Park by taking the Pelican Skipper pontoon ride out.
It's a gorgeous island with a manageable trail along the southern end. I've had the opportunity to bird it a few times and always thought it had potential. Make sure to double check the Geiger tree for Cuban Emerald!
Thanks, Rangel! I've added pontoon boat access to the Rare Bird Update.
I have been there many times, bring plenty of mosquito repellent. The birding can be good but those mosquitoes are something else.
Rangel, have there been cuban emerald sightings on Boca Chica? Any detail
No Kurt, just wishful thinking.
