La Sagra's Flycatcher

Bob Showler heard and saw a La Sagra's Flycatcher today, November 26th. in Everglades National Park. I drove down and arrived about 4:00 p.m. to see if I could hear or see the bird. I arrived at the location and saw that Bob was already there looking. About 5:00 p.m. the bird finally called but was way west of the road deep in the hammock. It called another few times but we never got a look at it. The bird was along the dirt road fourth power pole down from Research road. It was on the west side deep inside the hammock.

Also had it this morning in the same area.

I made a good recording of it below. It was interacting with a Brown-crested Flycatcher. I now think that there may have been two Brown-crested Flycatchers.

Here is a recording of just the La Sagra's Flycatcher from this morning November 27th.

Just after recording the La Sagra's Flycatcher, we had a Hooded Warbler calling. I had one years ago that wintered in this same area. A crappy recording of the Hooded Warbler call is below.

After you pay your entrance fee going into Everglades National Park west of Homestead, turn left at the first turn towards Anhinga Trail. After a mile or so, turn right on Research Road. Follow the road until it goes straight south. At this point you could turn right on the paved portion and go to the research buildings. But you will want to continue straight on the dirt road going through the nice hammock here. Go to the fourth power pole down, this is the area that had the La Sagra's Flycatcher as well as the Hooded Warbler.
