Bird Board
King Rails at Cutler Wetlands
Stopped by Cutler Wetlands while driving between the marina and West Marine to get a new pump for the boat. I wasn't expecting much, but was hoping to see a Least Bittern for Bird-A-Day. As I scanned the wetlands with the window down and the radio on, I thought I heard a King Rail. Must have been pretty close since I heard it over "You Can Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac. I turned the radio off, and heard at least two King Rails calling from the grass along the north edge. I got the camera ready and spotted one walking in an open area between the grass. Not a Least Bittern, but still a great bird for Bird-A-Day.

Not only two on the north side calling at about 7pm, but a third called from the middle marshy area. Wonder how many are there?
I thought the first one I heard call came from the middle area. Good thing I was playing Fleetwood Mac and not Iron Maiden.
